Wyedean Rally to return to Forest of DeanPosted on 18th January 2013
The Forest of Dean is among the most exquisite natural beauty spots in England, standing as one of a small group of ancient woodlands found on our isles. While it is a fantastic place to discover on a country walk, once a year the forest becomes a playground for some of the country’s leading rally car drivers, with the Team GMF Wyedean Forest Rally offering a fantastic event for motorsport fans to come and admire. A great draw with the locals, it is also popular with those staying in holiday cottages in the Forest of Dean.
It is a hugely popular event on the BTRDA Rally Series, with as many as 180 cars able to enter the event. The drivers, along with their trusty co-drivers, set off from the Chepstow start, battling through a gruelling 45-mile route across seven special stages in the Forest of Dean.
Despite the heavy snowfall, last year’s affair certainly wasn’t met with a frosty reception, with one of the best performances coming from Julian Wilkes, who pushed his 1400cc Vauxhall Nova to the limits to close the finishing line in a respectable third place. This year’s affair promises to be bigger and better than ever, with a host of top teams confirming their place. Former 1400 champion Darren Pinchin is one of those hoping to see podium success, confirming his inclusion early alongside co-driver Karen Watts in their Proton Satria.
Being staged on the 9 February 2013, it promises to be a fascinating event for fans of the sport or those who want to try something new. With events such as the BTRDA Historic Cup, MSA English Rally Championship and the MG ZR Challenge all being contested, there is plenty of action to get stuck into. If you are lucky enough to be enjoying your Forest of Dean cottage holidays during the period, why not come along?
