Posted on 19th February 2014

Whether you are holidaying with your partner or your family in the Forest of Dean, picking a place to eat can often be a struggle, especially as the area has so many restaurants with AA Rosettes and Michelin Stars to choose from.

For those of you staying in one of the range of amazing holiday homes in the Forest of Dean, here is a guide to some of the best restaurants and pubs in Gloucestershire, the Forest of Dean and the Wye Valley.

The Ugly Duckling

The Ugly Duckling Lydney Country Restaurant offers great food that is also really affordable, which is perfect for families or for couples looking to enjoy a romantic meal.

The Ugly Duckling, which is just a short drive away from many of the finest holiday cottages in the Forest of Dean, has been recommended by a number of respected food bodies and is extremely popular with locals and visitors alike.

Due to the popularity of the pub’s restaurant, it is well worth booking in advance to ensure that you get a table.

Wilton Court

People taking relaxing Forest of Dean cottage holidays soon should definitely taste the incredible food on offer at the nearby Wilton Court Restaurant.

The restaurant has been awarded two AA Rosettes since 2005 and has also been a finalist in a number of regional and national competitions.

In addition, Wilton Court has free Wi-Fi and is dog friendly.

The Ostrich Inn

Gloucester pubs are renowned for their quirkiness, and the Ostrich Inn near Newland shows that rural pubs can be every bit as fascinating as those in the city.

The Ostrich Inn is on the western edge of the Forest of Dean and is just a stone’s throw away from the Wye Valley – both of which are Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

This pub is perfect as a relaxing stop-off point for walkers or for those who are just looking for some great grub. The Ostrich Inn combines amazing local food with some of the best traditional ales available in the country.

People who visit what is one of the finest pubs in Gloucestershire over the summer can also enjoy its large gardens, which are perfect for kids to run and play in.

Swan Lake Russian Restaurant

If you open up your Forest of Dean map you will be able to see Brierley, a village nestled deep in the forest.

Brierly is like many other spots in the area: simply beautiful. One major difference, however, is that it is home to the Forest of Dean’s first Russian restaurant.

The Swan Lake Russian Restaurant has an array of Russian cuisine for diners to enjoy, as well as a number of fine wines and, of course, plenty of vodka.

It certainly is worth a visit, so take a look at the Swan Lake restaurant website.
