Thousands turn out for Forest of Dean food festivalPosted on 09th October 2014
The Forest Showcase Food and Drink Festival attracted thousands of visitors to the Forest of Dean on 4th October.
The popular festival celebrates and shows off the region’s best food and drink, and this year’s festival, which was held in the grounds of the Speech House Hotel near Coleford, attracted foodies from across Gloucester and visitors staying in nearby holiday cottages in the Forest of Dean.
The festival was in its 14th year and not only boasted a range of different types of food, but also live music and other activities for crowds to enjoy.
Rachel Thomas, who is exhibitor coordinator for the festival, told the Gloucester Citizen, “We are very, very pleased; the crowds came in their thousands and it was just really good to see people enjoying a great family day out. And we have had some great, positive feedback.”
One of the festival’s most unique and possibly controversial events was its Squirrel Burger Challenge. The competition received huge media coverage as organisers looked to get the animal onto the British menu by producing a competition that saw a number of chefs enter their own recipes. The 15 finalists then made their squirrel dish at the festival on Sunday.
