The Severn Bore surfed by StormtroopersPosted on 03rd December 2015
With the latest Star Wars movie set to hit the big screen later this month, it was only right that some of the people who surfed last week’s Severn Bore dressed as Stormtroopers.
Hordes of people staying in holiday cottages within the Forest of Dean and local people turned out to see people surf the last Severn Bore of the year, a tidal surge of the sea that funnels upstream.
Last week’s bore saw some surfers dress as Stormtroopers, who are the elite soldiers of the Galactic Empire. This was very timely as Star Wars: Episode VII The Force Awakens is set to hit cinemas in the UK on 17th December.
The Forest of Dean in Gloucestershire was used as a filming location for many scenes in the movie, with Puzzlewood welcoming Star Wars 7 back in July 2014, and has been used as a location in many other films and TV shows. A new television and movie trail is now being set up in the area.
Speaking to the BBC, Mark Terry-Lush, the Wye Valley and Forest of Dean Tourism Association director, said that they had invited the Stormtroopers to advertise its new television and movie trail.
He added, “We thought it would be fun to swap the Death Star for surfboards and see if the soldiers of the Galactic Empire could ride the waves.”
“It was the last big bore of the season and it was a decent bore – so we were really lucky.”
