Dean Forest Railway expansion plansPosted on 09th September 2015
The Dean Forest Railway is set to be extended as part of a £67 million expansion plan that will take place over the next 10 years.
A disused station building in Pontypool is set to be an integral part of the Dean Forest Railway expansion plans.
Currently people staying in holiday cottages near Cinderford in the Forest of Dean can travel from Cinderford to Parkend, but the new plans would see the disused station building taken down and rebuilt near Beechenhurst Lodge Visitors Centre.
In an article on the Forester website, Stuart Williams, the railway’s sales and marketing director, said, “We have had talks with the relevant bodies including the county council highways department, the district council and the Forestry Commission who are all very positive.
“Obviously funding the project will be a problem, but we don’t see that as being insurmountable and we will be looking at the grants available for the estimated £67 million cost of the scheme.”
