App looking at Forest of Dean heritage to be developedPosted on 11th August 2015
A “Hidden Heritage App” that will be available to download on all mobile phone devices is being created for those visiting the Forest of Dean.
The app is aimed at holidaymakers who are in the Forest of Dean on cottage holidays, as well as people who are on day visits.
Visitors who are on cycle trails (on foot or by bike) will be informed about points of interests that they are passing. The app uses GPS to track the progress of users and will show then and now photos of the historic site, alongside some information about the site.
According to an article in the Gloucester Citizen, the app was created by a group of local Foresters that often cycle through the Forest of Dean.
There will be 50 projects taking place across the region as part of the Forest of Dean’s Heritage Lottery Funded Landscape Partnership Scheme. The scheme, called the Foresters’ Forest, includes projects such as the development of this app. Read more about the Foresters’ Forest here.
On the weekend of 15th/16th August a free family event will be taking place on Speech House field to discuss some of the other planned projects.
