Ancient pathway in the Forest of Dean to reopenPosted on 11th December 2013
An ancient pathway that links two villages in the Forest of Dean is set to be reopened after The People’s Millions granted £50,000 for it to be restored.
The walkway runs through the Forest by many country cottages in the Forest of Dean and links the villages of Soudley and Blakeney.
The Soudley and Blakeney Community Gateway Project, the group behind the scheme, will now start work to reopen the old path with the aim of increasing the number of visitors to both villages.
The grant for the project was made after the general public voted in their droves to see the pathway reopened, following an appeal from the Gateway Project on ITV West Country at the end of November. The scheme received the grant after beating competition that included the creation of a community radio scheme based in Frome, Somerset.
Rose Peaty, a member of the project says, “It will make such a difference to our two small communities and this pathway will benefit so many people – from young school children, to local business owners and ramblers! We just can’t wait to get started!”
